Reflexology

Reflexology is a complementary therapy in which one small area of the body (usually the feet) is used as a map of the whole body. Massaging particular pressure points in this area can trigger a response in the corresponding part of the body.  Reflexology is not foot massage but can be very relaxing.  I practice 'Reflex Zone Therapy' which is a specific clinical style of reflexology suited to maternity care.

Reflexology can help with

  • Anxiety, fear and tension

  • Tiredness and insomnia

  • Nausea, vomiting and excessive saliva

  • Heartburn and indigestion

  • Constipation

  • Haemorrhoids

  • Backache, sciatica, symphysis pubis discomfort and pelvic pain

  • Carpal tunnel syndrome

  • Preparing your body to start labour

  • Lactation and breastfeeding issues

Preparation for Birth and Encouraging Labour to Start

Mother Nurture treatment sessions help you to relax, prepare your cervix and uterus for birth, encourage your baby to move down into your pelvis and allow your hormones that start labour to work effectively.  Research shows that these treatments reduce the need for medical induction of labour and where labour does not begin as a result of the treatments, the medical induction process is easier to establish.

Mother Nurture Preparation for Birth Sessions are suitable from around from 36 weeks pregnant and continue weekly until labour starts. In each treatment we discuss how you are feeling and address your concerns, hopes, fears and wishes. A unique combination of acupuncture/acupressure points is then developed to help you to relax, soften and ripen your cervix, support the ligaments and sinews as they stretch to widen your pelvis, and strengthen your body.

From 38 weeks and beyond, reflexology and aromatherapy essential oils can be introduced to the sessions to encourage labour to start, supporting your baby to move down into your pelvis in the optimal position and allowing your hormones that start labour to work effectively. Treatment sessions include  an essential oil blend to take home (when appropriate).
