THE HOMEOPATHIC BABY & CHILDREN'S ECZEMA CLINIC

Sian Collister LCHE MARH, Homeopath and Mother

I met Sian during her pregnancy and gave her support during the early days with her beautiful daughter Summer. I can personally recommend her to you, she suggested remedies for my 9 year old daughter who was going through a difficult transition to a new school. The remedies really helped her to calm down, her night terrors subsided and she began to sleep better. I wish I had been aware of the benefits of homeopathy when by girls were young.

Sian also treats mastitis, post natal depression, colic, coughs & colds and eczema.

I now count Sian among my friends, she is an amazing mother and I learn something new and valuable from her each time we meet.

Kate has over 10 years experience working specifically with acupuncture in pregnancy. As well as offering specific pre-birth treatment at weeks 37, 38 and 39, Kate is able to tailor the treatment to deal with any other concerns that may be present prior to labour.

Whilst working at the Whittington I was fortunate to have the chance to see 'accupuncture in action', we were very fortunate to have a delivery suite accupuncture clinic that treated a whole range of concerns and conditions such as sickness, anxiety and inducing labour to name only 3! The benefits were clear both for the women and babies, accupuncture is well worth considering.

The Breastfeeding Network is an independent source of information on breastfeeding. Many of the leaflets I use in my practice as a midwife come from here. They cover a range of issues from ‘getting started’ to coping with many of the common breastfeeding problems.

The World Health Organisation have developed infant growth charts that are based on breast fed babies; the ones contained in you infant record book are based on the growth of bottle fed babies. Whilst these new charts are not yet approved for general distribution they can offer reassurance for the parents of babies who have a slow weight gain. There is one for girls and another for boys – print them out and keep them with you ‘regular’ charts for comparison.

http://www.apni.org

The Association for Postnatal Illness is a charity dedicated to helping women who suffer with postnatal depression, something that is often ‘brushed under the carpet’ for fear of the perceived stigma that surround any sort of mental illness. This is a great resource for health professionals as well as women and their families.

Doulas are women who provide support and practical help to pregnant women both during labour and the postnatal period. They may not always have professional qualifications but they generally have a very ‘holistic’ approach to the job – having the interests of the whole family at heart. However, the success of this sort of help lies in the dynamics of the personalities involved. Make sure you interview the doula and discuss out how you see them fitting into your family and set out the help you feel you need right at the start.

Based on a paper written by Gill Rapley (Deputy Programme Director of Unicef Baby Friendly Initiative), Baby Led Weaning involves not giving purees, instead introducing your 6 month old child to finger foods from the start.

The site was started as a blog by 2 scottish moms (so makes very entertaining reading at least!) and has become a huge global site where mums get advice and swap recipes.

This is a great site one that I know has been useful to a number of my postnatal mums.
