Group Sessions

The series begins with four 2 hour group antenatal sessions to prepare you for labour, birth and life with a newborn.

You will be asked to complete a brief questionnaire prior to the start of the sessions.

Refreshments will be provided at all sessions. Evening sessions will begin at 7pm for a 7.30pm start. Day time and weekend groups can also be arranged.

The format will remain flexible but will incorporate the following:

  • The latter stages of pregnancy
  • The physiology of labour and birth
  • What to do if you go beyond your ‘due date’
  • How you can help yourself during labour
  • Things your partner can do to support you during labour
  • The birth
  • When things don’t go as you planned
  • Options for delivering the placenta
  • Vitamin K
  • Breastfeeding
  • Basic infant care
  • Recognising a well baby
  • Recovering after the birth and maintaining long-term physical health
  • Parenthood and it's effect on your relationship in the early weeks

In addition, a group reunion will be planned for when you have all delivered your babies.

Finally, should you wish, I would be very happy to make one visit to your home to meet your new baby and hear about your labour and the birth. This is an ideal opportunity to revisit some of the subjects covered in the group sessions and apply them to your individual situation. Should you feel you need it I can also assist with baby care and support you with breastfeeding.

Telephone support will be available from the time that you book onto a course until your baby is 28 days old, email support will be available for as long as you feel you need it.
