Breast Feeding Support

Lactation is a natural physiological process that the body will initiate once a pregnancy has ended whether or not there is a baby to suckle at the breast. Maintaining that milk supply and getting it from the breast into the baby is an art and a skill that needs to be learned by both the mother and the baby!

Sadly, many women describe a feeling of failure and guilt when they make the decision to stop breastfeeding early.

My aim is to equip you with the knowledge and practical skills to get through the first few days and weeks without giving up.

I would also hope to help you bridge the expectation -v- experience gap, which are often in direct opposition in the early days with a newborn.

Anatomy of the breast and physiology of lactation, positioning the baby at the breast, managing complications/problems, expressing and storing breast milk and sources of support during the postnatal period will all be covered.

What happens in the first 24 – 48 hours is a very important factor in successful initiation and ongoing success of breastfeeding. I am happy to have an informal chat with you prior to the birth of your baby, and should you wish I can visit at home or hospital to provide more intensive help and support once you have your babe in your arms.

As with all Mother Nurture services ongoing telephone and email support are offered for as long as you need it.
